save time, energy, money and inconvenience.

Atwood’s police protection is provided by: Atwood PD and the Sheriff’s
Departments of Douglas and Piatt Counties.
For emergencies twenty-four hours a day call 911.
Atwood Water & Sewer Policies:
1. There is a $75 meter deposit for a renter to have water turned on.
2. There is a $5 service fee/turn on fee to new homeowners and renters to
have the water changed over into their name.
3. The water and sewer bill is due on the 15th of each month, payable by mail
or drop box on east side of Municipal Building.
4. There is a 20% surcharge/late charge for bills paid after the 15th.
5. If bills are not paid by the 20th, the service will be discontinued and not
turned on again until all bills and the turn-on fee of $5 have been paid.
Utilities:
Electricity and natural gas service is from AmerenCilco. Their telephone number is:

Local telephone service is provided by Consolidated Communications. Their customer
service numbers are: residential customers: 1-800-553-9981; business customers:

1-800-892-0123. They also provide internet and digital television services.
Garbage:
1. All homes must have garbage service in the Village.
2. Burning of trash/garbage is prohibited. Yard waste may be burnt but the
Village prefers that it be taken down to the Village’s brush pile south of
West Birch Avenue. No burning after dusk! Nothing is to be left smoldering!
3. Burning of leaves is not permitted on village streets.
4. The Village has two licensed contractors who haul garbage:
Veolia, Charleston, IL: 345-7404; 234-7862 and 1-800-469-7404.

5. Only Village licensed companies are permitted to pick up garbage within the
Village limits.
Building Permits:
obtain a building permit before you build a new structure or make any new additions
to the outside of your present building or buildings.
Mike Turner is the building commissioner. The building permit form may be
obtained from the Village Clerk’s office at the Municipal Building, 110 W. Central Ave.,
phone 578-2512.
Dogs, Cats and Pets:
1. All dogs and cats must be vaccinated for rabies and licensed with the county you reside in and the Village. Village animal tags may be purchased at the Municipal Building.
2. No dogs are permitted to run loose. Dogs must be on a leash at all times. Cats are not allowed to run loose.
3. "Dangerous Dogs" are not allowed in the Village of Atwood. American Pit Bull Terrier, Staffordshire Bull Terrier or American Staffordshire Terrier, even if mixed breeds. Any dog with a known propensity, tendency, or disposition to attack, unprovoked, to cause injury to, or to otherwise endanger the safety of humans or domestic animals.
Park:
The park is for everyone’s use. Please do not litter and please obey the signs in the park. The park is closed each evening at 11:00 p.m. and winter months. The basketball courts (located at the grade school are closed at 11:00 p.m.).
